I started with Angela after trying a step class that she was teaching and she recognized one of her clients who had lost 10 pounds. She encouraged the class to talk with her after and when I walked by and congratulated her, I saw a happiness in her eyes and I wanted that feeling. I didn’t recognize myself anymore. I didn’t like to be described as the “heavy set, curly haired girl” I wanted a change in my life and after talking with Angela during our first meeting, I felt that I had a team and a support that I could make the change no matter how hard or scary it would be. Angela set guidelines and took steps to create the change that was needed but she told me it was me that would be doing all the work. I was ready for the challenge and being in a group atmosphere, I had competition when I needed a kick in the pants and a shoulder to lean on when it is was tough.

Angela would push me to finish the stair loop or extra set of push-ups and the sense of accomplishment started to satisfy me in a better way than any milkshake I could crave. She was always ready to cheer me on or challenge me when I lost focus. After being truthful with myself and deciding that I truly want to change my lifestyle, we worked together to make the adjustments needed to lose the pounds and inches. I was married last year – it is exciting to see how my husband looks at me in amazement as I transform in front of him- I knock his socks off and that feels good! I am proud of the changes I see in my body and I know that reflects in all parts of my life.

I like how physically and mentally strong I have become through all the endurance, strength training and boot-camps that I attended. I promised myself I wouldn’t spend my 30s like I spent my 20s and so far: I have run a half marathon in San Francisco, wore a bikini on the beach in Jamaica, and kept up with my college friends on a snow-shoeing trip in the Colorado Rockies. Angela has given me the tools of living healthy: Nutrition is key, water is a must and you can’t expect results b y concentrating on one muscle. Our bodies are like candles, you must heat it up to melt it off. I appreciate having a personal trainer who will encourage me to finish the last set and push me to my potential when it is so easy to give up. Thank you, Angela, for your dedication, heart and “never give up” mentality to keep me on my journey! You are a role model to me and I’m glad you are on my team! I have 10-15 lbs to lose and one more size down to go but I haven’t forgotten how far I’ve come and how to celebrate along the way!

Over the last three years I have lost over 100 lbs., that’s seven pant sizes and more inches than I can keep track of. Through my weight loss journey I discovered that just changing the way that I eat wasn’t enough, so I decided to finally use the gym membership I had been paying for the last two years. After a few disheartening attempts at working out by myself I knew I need help. Fortunately a co-worker had just posted an e-mail asking if anyone would be interested in partnering up to work with a personal trainer, that’s how I met Angela! For the last year and a half I have worked out anywhere from two to five days a week both one on one and in small groups with Angela. I can honestly say that without the encouragement and, yes I’ll admit it, the pushing that Angela has provided I would never have worked myself as hard as I have. That is not to mention the camaraderie and support I get from the other women who also train with her. I’m only 30lbs. from my goal weight and I have never felt healthier than I do today!

I have been training with Angela for about 12 months. I have lost 50 lbs. and have never felt this good. I actually eat more than I ever have and my energy is through the roof. I exercise 5-6 times a week and my food is simple and clean but also tastes good. If I do have something I really like I don’t beat myself up anymore but rather I get right back on track. Angela’s approach to diet and fitness is simple and realistic. She keeps it creative and basic all at the same time, I am never bored . Another thing I really enjoy about training with Angela is that she pushes me to reach my full potential, she never takes the easy road.( She works my ass off!!). I have learned through training with her that my body is capable of much more than I ever gave it credit for, and it really feels good. She is always positive and is always very attentive. I am truly grateful I am able to train with her. I recently turned 40 and it was the first time I didn’t feel absolutely depressed because I was so out of control. On my birthday I went to the gym with my daughter ( who also trains with Angela), came home and fixed a great healthy meal with my family and felt awesome. It just doesn’t get any better.

“My name is Paula and I have lost 20 lbs. since I started training in August. I had slowly gained weight over the years, and I was at a point where I was uncomfortable in my own clothes. My pants were all tight around the waist and I found myself wearing sweats and loose shirts to cover up my stomach. After seeing myself in a photo I realized how obvious my weight gain was in my face and arms and knew I needed to do something about it.

When I started training with Angela my goal was just to lose weight. I wanted to be smaller. Angela showed me specifically what I needed to eat and what I needed to do at the gym in order to lose the weight, and it worked. So not only have I lost weight and I look better, but by following what Angela taught me about eating right, I feel better too. I am stronger and healthier than I have ever been and I actually look forward to going to the gym.”

Martha MacIntosh: I’ve lost 25 pounds and three dress sizes, and I’ve gained amazing strength which has helped to alleviate my arthritis pains and the confidence that when I walk into a room, I know I’m looking good! It took me nine months to lose 25 pounds, which may seem like a long time but it’s the same 25 pounds I’ve been gaining and losing for the last 40 years since I graduated from high school. So it was tough going, but Angela was with me every step of the way. She’s like a one-woman cheering squad; she’s always encouraging, supportive, and upbeat. I’m so glad she’s in my corner because I don’t think I could have hung in for the long haul without her. And now that I’m on maintenance, I know the good eating habits she’s instilled in me and the hard work outs I continue to have with her will be my way of life from hereon in. Mainly, I’d like to thank Angela for helping me to achieve a lifelong dream of being a Size 6. I really believe that as I continue to get stronger and firmer, I will probably end up a Size 4 – and that is something I couldn’t have even contemplated or imagined nine months ago. I just wanted to share this with you. My starting weight when I joined the gym on 3-12-07 was 198.3. I was very faithful, working out 6 & 7 times a week and lifting weights 3 of those days. I was determined to make this work but never kept a food journal. Magen (my daughter) asked me a few times to think about starting with a trainer because she had met you and thought it would be a good thing for us to try. After all, we’ve tried everything else; why not add this to our list. One month later 4-14-07 we met with you for the first time and my weight was 194.8

Although I wasn’t excited about my weight, I was happy to have dropped 35 lbs since joining the gym. I heard you say something to us (me) that first day and it stuck with me. You said how important it was to eat, but to know how much you’re eating. You also said that by writing it down, you become much more aware of what you’re putting in your mouth. You told us not to think of this as a diet but to just make wise choices when shopping & eating. Because I’ve struggled with weight for most of my life, I became pretty aware of what I should and should not eat. What I didn’t realize though was just how much of the “good” foods I was actually consuming. Now that I’m learning the importance of portion sizes, it’s all starting to make so much sense.

Today, I’m down a total of 35 lbs!!!!!!. Wow, training with you each week has taught me to live a new healthy lifestyle along with time effective work outs. I am down 37 inches too!!!! I should have started with you from the beginning! I figured out that exercise alone can’t get the job done. My prayer for every client you work with is that they too may hear what it is your trying to teach them and apply it to their own lives. I pray also that they understand the gift your giving them for keeping a journal and turning it in to you isn’t just a free session but that it’s the first step in making this work for them as well. I just turned 45. For the first time in a long time I’m feeling pretty darn good about myself and know I can do this :) You’ve just given me one of the best birthday gifts I’ve ever received.
